Oswald Gallery has been selected to participate in Photo Miami, the International Contemporary Art Fair for Photo-Based Art, Video and New Media. Among only a handful of American galleries, Oswald Gallery will present the photographs of Virgilio Ferreira and Dylan Vitone at this extremely exclusive, curated show. Photo Miami, located in the Wynwood Art District, is a satellite fair to the art world’s most important fair, Art Basel Miami Beach, which will occur concurrently. The shows bring together international collectors, curators, critics, art world notables and galleries for one week.
Oswald Gallery is presenting the American debut of Portuguese photographer Virgilio Ferreira in its booth. Ferreira works in an intuitive and random manner on the streets of Asia’s megalopolises. Embracing his outsider status, he works quickly and anonymously late at night, capturing the mere suggestion of the places and their people. Ferreira’s photographs are emotional atmospheres that blithely comment on a fleeting and amorphous city.
Dylan Vitone’s black and white urbanscapes combine portraiture with panorama to create an entirely new aesthetic. As he documents Pittsburgh and its inhabitants, Vitone allows the people and their places to speak for themselves, rigorously and thoughtfully constructing large tableaux.
