Moving Hacks to Get You from Point A to Point B in No Time at All

Moving to a new home comes with a mix of emotions. There’s the sadness in saying goodbye to your old home, the excitement of starting fresh, and the overwhelming feeling of “how do I move all my stuff from one home to the other?”

Luckily, there are a few life hacks that can help you move with ease. Here are some tips and tricks that will get you to your new home in no time at all.

Clean your new home before you move

If at all possible, clean your home before you move. This will save you tons of time once you move in because you can just put everything away without staring at boxes. The last thing you want to do is clean after you have hauled a ton of stuff from one side of town to the other, so ask if you can get to get cleaning a few days before the big move. Chances are, if you already got yourself a fixed-rate mortgage for the new property, you have the rights to get down there whenever you want.

Measure everything before you go

You can’t assume everything you have in your old home will make it to your new home. Your new home has a ton of different dimensions to follow, so measure every little thing before you even think about packing it. Because what is the point for all of this effort to bring big and bulky items to your new home if they won’t fit? So measure accordingly and then decide what you are bringing and what you are donating.

Create a Schedule

The easiest way to prevent getting overwhelmed is to develop a schedule and stick to it. There are specific times you should move different items from one house to the other, and a little planning at the beginning of the moving process will ensure you don’t feel overwhelmed. For example, you can’t simply unplug your fridge and move it over the same day. You’ll have to plan for the fridge and freezer to defrost itself, and you’ll also have to decide what to do with all the food that was inside it! Remember, when it comes to moving, prior planning is your friend.

Cover your clothes when they’re still hanging

You don’t have to use moving boxes for everything, all you need is a little bit of creativity. To make it easy for you to move your clothing, pack them up in trash bags while they’re still hanging. Just press them together, pull a bag over them, and tie at the nape of the hanger. This way, you can hang and go without having to rummage through tons of boxes for that one shirt or pair of pants.

Use plastic cutlery to protect your china

Packing your china couldn’t be easier, just reach for your foam and paper plates to cushion them. Since they are already plate-shaped, they create a good buffer for nicer plates when packed in boxes, without creating unnecessary waste. You can use your excess foam plates as additional padding in other boxes, and best of all, you can recycle them and use them for that take out dinner you’ll have the first day you move into your new space.

With these tips and tricks in mind, you’ll be moving into your new place while keeping the stress at bay. And when all else fails, you can always call a full service moving company for extra help and organization if you need it.
